The Latest in Warren & Julie News
7/8/05: In just a four-day period, Julie made quite a splash in the political scene, protesting at two seperate and high-profile events. Her first stop was Gleneagles, Scotland, where the leaders of the world's richest countries are meeting at the G8 Summit to discuss poverty in Africa. Julie was among the 2500 protestors at the Naming of the Dead Ceremony on Monday, and assisted in naming off all the soldiers killed in Iraq. She also had a few words to say to Tony Blair and George W. Bush. Julie, who has always been outspoken against the war with Iraq, said, "The troops should never have gone to war at all. Really the names being read out were wasted deaths. Sending troops to Iraq was just feeding the greed of Bush and Blair. We shouldn't be deluded by thinking that because they are so pleasant with Bob Geldof and Bono, that Blair and Bush give a damn about alleviating poverty." 'Britain's Jane Fonda' as she's so commonly called, could also be seen in London on Wednesday night, protesting London's Natural History Museum's exhibition of diamonds provided by South African mining company De Beers. South African natives, or "Bushmen" claimed that De Beers had taken their land away from them in order to mine the diamonds. An outraged Julie told the press, "I am shocked that the Natural History Museum can ignore the plight of the Bushmen while taking money from De Beers. Boycott De Beers, or you will have the destruction of the Bushmen on your conscience."
6/27/05: Variety magazine reported today that Paramount Pictures is planning to re-make Julie's classic 1973 film, "Don't Look Now." The psychological thriller earned worldwide acclaim for it's shockingly erotic love scene and Hitchcockian aura. The re-make, however, will have a more modern theme. The film's producer Mark Gordon says, "Don't Look Now was very much of its time with a lot of atmospherics that wouldn't necessarily work today. We hope to take the feeling of the story, continue to set in Venice and make it contemporary."

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. "Although I do not want to run for governor, I'd do one helluva better job than he's done." When asked about his comments, following the ceremony, Warren claimed he is not ruling out running for governor.

1/17/05: Congratulations Julie! The BAFTA nominations were announced this morning and Julie's name is in the best supporting actress roster! Although she faces tough competition (Meryl Streep(The Manchurian Candidate), Cate Blanchett(The Aviator), Heather Craney(Vera Drake), and last night's recipient of the best supporting actress Golden Globe, Natalie Portman(Closer), we're confident Julie will take home the award for her portrayal of Emma DuMaurier in "Finding Neverland." Julie's buddy and co-star Kate Winslet earned two best actress nominations for "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and "Finding Neverland." Neverland also picked up a total of eleven nominations for best actor: Johnny Depp, best film, the David Lean Award For Achievement in Direction: Marc Forster, Adapted Screenplay, Achievement in Film Music, Cinematography, Editing, Production Design, Costume Design, and Make Up & Hair. Although "Finding Neverland" left empty-handed at last night's Golden Globe awards, the future looks much better at the BAFTA's. Congratulations and good luck to Julie, and the entire cast and crew of Finding Neverland. The BAFTA Awards will air on Saturday, February 12, on the BBC.
12/5/04: Warren was the recipient, along with entertainers Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, Joan Sutherland, Elton John, and composer John Williams, of the annual Kennedy Center honors. The event, which took place in Washington D.C. and was hosted by Caroline Kennedy, was also attended by President Bush and Laura Bush. Faye Dunaway, Warren's calamitous sidekick in "Bonnie and Clyde," and Jack Nicholson, whom Warren shared the screen with in both "Reds and "The Fortune," both gave loving, anecdotal tributes to Warren. There was also a movie montage which chronicled "Henry" Warren Beatty's days as "Mad Dog Beatty" in high school football, to his newfound role as a family man. Noticeably absent, was a tribute from Julie Christie, whom has been more prominent in Beatty's life than both Dunaway and Nicholson. Oh well, maybe next time. The Kenendy Center Honors air on CBS on December 21st.
